Artificial Intelligence Innovation In Education Grant
WMRHSD was awarded a $75,000 artificial intelligence grant from the NJ Department of Education. It has the distinction of being named an AI Vanguard District, one of ten school districts in the state receiving an Artificial Intelligence Innovation in Education grant. Through the "Focus on AI Initiative" our District will aim to foster AI literacy, ethical awareness, and inquiry-based learning. Specifically,

provide educators with targeted professional development on AI integration

implement AI-supported learning activities for students to provide hands-on opportunities to explore AI applications, including prompt engineering, problem solving, and responsible AI use

enhance instructional planning with AI-driven feedback mechanisms.

As part of the grant requirements, an "AI Best Practices Guide" pilot program will be developed to document effective strategies and lessons learned to support educators across NJ in integrating AI thoughtfully and ethically into their classrooms.
In addition, the District created a comprehensive Vision for the Use of Generative AI in Teaching and Learning white paper, emphasizing AI as a tool to enhance - not replace - independent thought and inquiry-based learning. See below insert for detail.
